About the Author
Jean Wyrick is Professor Emerita of English at Colorado State University, where she was Director of Composition for 11 years. She has more than 25 years of experience teaching writing, training writing teachers, and designing writing/writing-across-the-curriculum programs. Her other textbooks include THE RINEHART READER and DISCOVERING IDEAS. She has presented over a hundred workshops and papers on the teaching of writing, American literature, American Studies, and Women's Studies.

Not my cup of tea

This was the book I used for introduction to writing a few years ago. Though it helped me form a foundation for college writing, it is not, in my opinion a very straight forward text book. It comes off more as a potpourri of various writing exercises which don't appear to have any common goal or coherency. The book doesn't build up from explaining simple grammatical rules to proper sentences, to proper paragraphs, essay structure and citations. Instead it jumps around in a disorganized fashion. This book looks perfect for comma-hunting hard-line English teachers who want to throw their students a curve ball every once in a while.
The exercises in the book do have some value, but to me it just looks too disorganized.

great condition, fast shipping!

I hope this review is of help to you guys! I recently ordered this book for my english 51 class and I must say it's in really great condition. It is used, but it has no damages whatsoever. The shipping was incredibly fast (I think it was $5 for 2 day shipping) anyway, highly satisfied with my purchase, I definitely recommend buying from this seller!

Great book for writing teachers!

This book (any edition) is an excellent resource for teachers! It was recommended during a workshop and it was great to buy it at such a low price! The presenter told us that any edition was as good as another for the information included!
