About the Author
Carla Larese Riga received her Master of Arts from Stanford University and has worked toward a PhD at the University of California, Berkley. She has over 30 years of experience as a dedicated professor of Italian at various institutions, including Santa Clara University, Stanford University, Foothill College, and De Anza College. She is a scholar of romance languages and is fluent in Italian, French, and Spanish.

Buy this book NEW not used if...!

This is a wonderful introductory text for Italian. If, however, you plan to use QUIA for the workbook exercises, you will need a key code that comes with NEW books. It can only be used once. If you purchase the book used and want to use QUIA for the exercises (homework in most cases!) you will have to pony up almost $100 for access to QUIA for 18 months! So, if you have no need of online access to QUIA, buy a used text.
That said, the text is well done by Carla Leon Riga. Ciao!

Not a good deal

If you purchase the textbook directly from the publisher, you receive an e-code that is needed if you are taking an on-line course or want access to the publisher's site for exercises and oral activities. I had to spend an additional $99 for web access after purchasing the hard cover book through Amazon because there was no e-code in the textbook. NOT a good deal.
