About the Author
Marilyn Lichtman is a retired professor of educational research and evaluation from Virginia Tech at both the main campus in Blacksburg, Virginia, and at the graduate campus in Falls Church, Virginia. After attending The University of Chicago as an undergraduate, she moved to Washington, D.C. She completed all her degrees at The George Washington University, receiving her doctorate in educational research. She taught both qualitative and quantitative research courses while at The Catholic University of America and Virginia Tech. She is a regular user of the Internet and social media and was an early contributor to teaching qualitative courses online. She is currently on the editorial boards of The Qualitative Report and Forum: Qualitative Social Research (FQS), both online journals devoted to qualitative issues. She has served as a consultant to many school systems, private companies, and government agencies. She has traveled extensively throughout the world. Currently she serves on the docent council at the Corcoran gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.

Accessible and Beneficial

I have been using Marilyn Lichtman's textbook for the past two years. Dr. Lichtman writes in a very straightforward manner and my students have found the text extremely helpful as they navigate research. The examples and explanations help students to more clearly understand research methods. This textbook is fantastic for both the beginner or expert. It not only is a teaching tool but also a reference guide for researchers as they move forward.
I have also had the pleasure of inviting Dr. Lichtman to SKYPE into my class and speak directly to my graduate students about their research. Dr. Lichtman took the time to make the connection to the students and to answer their concerns about their research. This was a very powerful experience for the students who reported that they "heard" her voice as they were reading. Dr. Lichtman also made herself available by allowing students to directly email her with their questions. Overall, my experiences and my classes experiences with Dr. Lichtman has been positive and beneficial.
