About the Author
Jan Frodesen is Director of ESL in the Department of Linguistics, University of California, Santa Barbara, where she reaches graduate and undergraduate courses in ESL and TESL. Her research and professional interests includes composition pedagogy, academic literacy, development, pedagogical grammar and ESL articulation issues in post secondary education.

Christine Holten is a lecturer in the Department of Applied Linguistics and TESOL at UCLA. She teaches ESL writing course for graduate and undergraduate students and also teacher preparation course in the graduate program. She has presented and published on topics such as writing conferences, grammar and language in writing instruction, composition tutoring, and portfolio assessment.

About the Author
Mary McVey Gill received a master's in comparative literature from the University of California at Berkeley. In addition to EN CONTACTO, she has co-authored CINEMA FOR SPANISH CONVERSATION, DE PELÍCULA! (a high school conversation book based on film), Hablemos espanol (introductory Spanish), TAPESTRY: LISTENING AND SPEAKING II (for English as a second language), STREETWISE SPANISH, STREETWISE SPANISH DICTIONARY/THESAURUS, TUNE UP YOUR SPANISH (a review of Spanish with a lexical emphasis), THE RED-HOT BOOK OF SPANISH SLANG AND IDIOMS, and most recently SPANISH IN YOUR FACE (gestures and vocabulary related to emotions and personality characteristics). She lives in Stanford, California.

Brenda Wegmann received a Master's degree in Spanish literature from the University of Wisconsin and taught Spanish for seven years at Boston University and Northeastern University before moving to Canada in 1974. Since then she has lived with her family in Edmonton while teaching Spanish at the University of Alberta in the Department of Extension and writing Spanish and ESL textbooks, as well as trade books. Teresa Mendez-Faith was born in Asuncion, Paraguay. She received her PhD at the University of Michigan in 1979. She currently resides in New England. An essayist, literary critic and college professor, she teaches Hispanic-American literature at Saint Anselm College, New Hampshire. She has authored several books including Paraguay: Novela y Exilio (1985) and Nuevos contextos: Doce cuentistas contemporáneos de Hispanoamerica (2002), and is co-author of four Spanish textbooks. Teresa Mendez-Faith has been awarded several academic distinctions, including two postgraduate scholarships from the National for Endowment the Humanities, the AAUP "Teacher of the Year" prize at her college (1990) and, also that same year, the "Sears-Roebuck Foundation Teaching Excellence and Campus Leadership Award".

Great Organizational Reference Guide

This Nolo Planner is an excellent guide for organizing personal documents either for yourself or a loved one. While it brings up topics many of us would not like to think about, it is something we should all do at one time or another. It is written in an easy to understand manner with interesting topics and has a wealth of ideas and resources for further information, both on the Nolo website and other resources related to the topic the particular chapter covers. This book also comes with a CD-ROM that includes documents to put your Planner together both in PDF and RTF form. Some reviewers have expressed frustration with finding the RTF documents. Both are on the CD. When the CD installs, it only installs the PDF version. If you use the My Computer window to read the CD drive, right click on the CD Drive and select the Explore menue to find the Planner Files folder. Copy this folder to your hard drive. This will allow you to work with the documents on your computer. Since they are RTF or Rich Text Format documents, any word processing program like Word, Word Perfect, etc. will be able to open them and you can save them with a different name to customize the documents to your needs.

The Planner contains sections for everything from Letters to you Loved Ones, kids, pets, memberships and other things you would not normally think of. Is is a great reminder of the many things you would otherwise forget to include when organizing important documents. Everyone may not need or require all of the chapter topics, but there are some great ideas for customizing the planner to your needs. As I mentioned before the references are excellent for finding out more information for specialty topics such as legal and medical matters with information about organizations to contact for more information. It is not an official legal book, but the Nolo website, w[...] is a great place to start searching for more information. My mother passed away over 10 years ago and I wish I had a planner guide like this to assist me. It has helped me to better organize my own information. I highly recommend this book to anyone who needs to plan for their own future or that of a loved one, it has a wealth of information valuable to anyone.

The book was good, the CD was great. You can type information into the forms and print them. Don't get the binder, it is a rip-off. You can make one for $5. No envelopes or anything other than a binder and printed tabs.

About the Author
Greg Conderman is full professor of special education at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois, where he teaches methods and collaboration courses for elementary education, secondary education, and special education majors. He was a middle and high school special education teacher and special education consultant for 10 years before entering higher education. He has authored over 70 articles on instructional methods and collaboration, which have been published in special education and general education journals. He is a frequent presenter at local, state, and national conferences. He has also received numerous teaching awards for excellence in instruction at the college level

Laura Hedin is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Special and Early Education at Northern Illinois University. She teaches instructional methods courses including reading methods in both the graduate and undergraduate special education certification programs. Her research interests include reading in the content areas for intermediate and secondary students with disabilities as well as teacher preparation and co-teaching.

Val Bresnahan is an adjunct instructor of special education at Northern Illinois University, where she teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in learning disabilities and inclusion. Bresnahan has taught elementary, middle, and high school students in special and inclusionary environments, and she has been a learning facilitator and a speech-language pathologist. In addition to teaching college courses, she is a middle school co-teacher in language arts and social studies in a central Illinois suburb. She has authored books and articles on vocabulary instruction and co-teaching and is a frequently invited presenter on reading and language skills.

About the Author

Sharon Henderson Callahan is an Associate Professor of Practical Theology and Leadership at the School of Theology and Ministry, Seattle University. She has served in some capacity as Associate Dean for the institution for twenty years. Elected to the Woman in Leadership team for the Association of Theological Schools at the 2012 biennial, she also serves as President of the Academy of Religious Leadership. She has been on the editorial board of the Journal of Religious Leadership for ten years, and was the third recipient of the Called and Gifted Award bestowed by the Association of Graduate Programs in Ministry (AGPIM). She has co-authored and edited a series of eight texts collected in the Scripture and Leadership Training (SALT) curriculum.

About the Author
Joan Franklin Smutny is founder and director of the Center for Gifted, a Northern Illinois University Partner. She directs programs for thousands of bright, talented, and gifted children in the Chicago area annually. She also teaches creative writing in many of these programs as well as courses on gifted education for graduate students at the university level. She is editor of the Illinois Association for Gifted Children Journal, contributing editor of Understanding Our Gifted, and a regular contributor to the Gifted Education Communicator, Parenting for High Potential, and the Gifted Education Press Quarterly. Smutny has authored, co-authored, and edited many articles and books on gifted education for teachers, parents, and administrators, including Challenging High Potential Spanish Speaking Students (2012), Teaching Advanced Learners in the General Education Classroom (2011), Manifesto of the Gifted Girl (2010), Differentiating for the Young Child, Second Edition (2010), Igniting Creativity in Gifted Learners, K–6 (2009), Acceleration for Gifted Learners, K–5 (2007), Reclaiming the Lives of Gifted Girls and Women (2007), Designing and Developing Programs for Gifted Students (2003), Underserved Gifted Populations (2003), Gifted Education: Promising Practices (2003), Stand Up for Your Gifted Child (2001), The Young Gifted Child: Potential and Promise, an Anthology (1998), and Teaching Young Gifted Children in the Regular Classroom (1997). In 1996, she won the National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC) Distinguished Service Award for outstanding contribution to the field of gifted education.

Kathryn P. Haydon has been an advocate for early second language learning, and has taught and developed curriculum for preschool and elementary school Spanish programs. She has also worked extensively with high-school aged Hispanic students as a college essay writing coach. The founder of Ignite Creative Learning Studio in Ojai, California, Kathryn is a nationally-known writer and speaker, and a teacher and mentor to gifted and creative students of all ages. A former second grade teacher, she is a published author on teaching, creativity, parenting, and early foreign language instruction, and her work was featured in Igniting Creativity in Gifted Learners, K-6 (Corwin, 2009). Kathryn holds a B.A. from Northwestern University in Spanish and Latin American language, literature, and culture. She serves on the Torrance Legacy Creative Writing Awards committee for the National Association for Gifted Children.

Olivia Gutierrez Bolaños is the Coordinator of Curriculum and Instruction in the Santa Maria-Bonita School District where one of her responsibilities is overseeing the Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) Program. She taught bilingual education for 11 years and was a principal for 12 years. Olivia comes from a family very similar to the students she has worked with. Her ability to create an atmosphere of “familia” within the school community and her knowledge of Hispanic culture has helped lead to the academic success of her students. Olivia has seen the GATE Spanish Parent group flourish in the district in just three years by making a few changes to better meet their needs.

Gina M. Estrada Danley has been a teacher of gifted and talented students since 1997. She taught junior high English for 11 years and has served as district GATE resource teacher in the Santa Maria-Bonita School District for 4 years. Having had her own life powerfully impacted by participation in the Future Leaders camp at age 13, she has since been the assistant co-director for the Future Leaders annual summer retreat, dedicated to empowering young Latino/Chicano students to fulfill their leadership potential. A strong advocate for gifted education, Gina is proactive with the California Association for the Gifted (CAG). She facilitated the local regional affiliate’s Best Practices Workshop for educators and parents of gifted and talented students.
