About the Author
Stephen R. Elias is an attorney and associate publisher at Nolo.com. He is the author of many Nolo titles, including: How to File for Chapter 7 Bankruptcy, Trademark: Legal Care For Your Business and Product Name, Legal Research: How to Find and Understand the Law, and Nolo's Pocket Guide to Family Law. Steve has been interviewed by most major media including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, Good Morning America, 20/20,Money Magazine and more. He received his law degree from Hastings College of Law and practiced law in California, New York and Vermont before joining Nolo in 1980. In recent years much of Steve's time at Nolo has been devoted to the fields of self-help legal software and online legal information. He is one of the original authors/designers of Nolo's bestselling WillMaker program, as well as the software version of Nolo's Patent It Yourself.

Susan Levinkind graduated first in her class from Western New England College of Law in 1979. She practiced general law in Northhampton, Massachusetts until 1989; at which point she decided to move to California and return to her former career as a librarian. She is currently the Law Librarian at the Santa Clara County Municipal Court and teaches legal research to whomever will listen. Co-author of Legal Research: How to Find & Understand the Law, Susan lives in Oakland, California.

Nono's "Legal Research"

This is the greatest book I've read on legal research. Have used some paralegal texts, and this is by far the most useful and readable. It's been (is being) a tremendous help to a paralegal course I'm taking, and hopefully for an intended JD journey.

I find this book to be a great resource for non-lawyers. As adjunct faculty at a community college, I use it to supplement the course text for my Legal Research & Writing Course for Paralegals. Well worth the purchase, and a great value!

Going to Court?

Legal information can seem confusing to the common person which is why this book was written. You need to understand how to find laws, regulations and court cases (if you are representing yourself in court). This is great even if you d not go to court because it makes you a smarter more diverse individual.

This book gives you a straight forward resource on how to find the laws and regulations, how to read the citations, and how to use the law library. It is good for lawyers, judges, paralegals or the layman. It is packed with tons of useful information.

I recommend it to everyone who has to decide if things are legal or not.

Footnote: Nolo press is the best company that produces law books for the common person. They are always easy to read and pact with good advice.

About the Author

Peter G. Northouse, PhD, is Professor Emeritus of Communication in the School of Communication at Western Michigan University. In addition to publications in professional journals, he is the author of Leadership: Theory and Practice (now in its seventh edition) and Introduction to Leadership: Concepts and Practice (now in its third edition) and coauthor of Health Communication: Strategies for Health Professionals (now in its third edition). His scholarly and curricular interests include models of leadership, leadership assessment, ethical leadership, and leadership and group dynamics. For more than 30 years, he has taught courses in leadership, interpersonal communication, and organizational communication to both undergraduate and graduate students. Currently, he is a consultant and lecturer on trends in leadership research, leadership development, and leadership education. He holds a doctorate in speech communication from the University of Denver, and master’s and bachelor’s degrees in communication education from Michigan State University.

About the Author
Carolyn Chapman is an international educational consultant, author, and teacher who has taught in kindergarten to college classrooms. Her interactive, hands-on professional development training sessions challenge educators to use strategies that ensure success for learners of all ages. Chapman has written many books about differentiated instruction, multiple intelligences, multiple assessments, and the brain-compatible classroom. She is coauthor with Gayle Gregory of the landmark Corwin Press book Differentiated Instructional Strategies: One Size Doesn't Fit All.

Rita King has more than 20 years of teacher training experience and administrative experience as principal and director of Middle Tennessee State University's teacher training program in the laboratory school. Most recently, she was an adjunct professor in the Department of Educational Leadership at the university. She now consults internationally in the areas of multiple intelligences, practical applications of brain-based research, differentiated learning, reading and writing strategies, mathematics instruction, creating effective learning environments, and strategies for test success. Changing view on assessment

this book really worked to broaden my definition, view and understanding of assessment. as with another book by this author, the information did become repetitive, but remained helpful. I really enjoyed the variety of examples on how to formally and informally incorporate assessment in the classroom.

Great book - I recommend it!

This book covers many different types of assessment and tools that are comprehensive and useful in the classroom. The authors do a great job of breaking it down for the reader in an easy to follow way. They argue that assessment drives instruction, but that isn't a bad thing. From pre-assessing to informal assessments like thumbs up, cards, posters or group work that allows verbal assessment, there really is no limit to the creative ways the authors have compiled ways to assess what students know. My favorite part of the book was when the authors discuss assessing through student's talents and interests, knowing that when we get to act as experts, we learn better. This translates into comprehensive ideas and innovative ways to reach into a child's understanding to create assessment tools that get to the heart of the matter : learning.

Exciting journal entries are broken down so the reader can easily understand the how and why. Portfolios are made simple, and exciting. This book is wonderful for helping spark creative assessment thinking, as well as aiding in creating lessons from the assessment down. I never knew there were so many ways to creatively get accurate assessment data.

I would absolutely recommend this book to teachers, substitutes, student teachers... anyone who wants a little flavor in their classroom, a little variety, or anyone who feels like they are in an assessment rut. You won't be in a rut by the time you finish this book. And the ideas that you will get from the tools found in this book are priceless!

About the Author
Thomas R. Arp received a B.A. in English from the University of Michigan (1954) and a Woodrow Wilson Fellowship to Stanford University. In 1955-1956, he produced educational television for the University of Michigan. He received an M.A. in 1960 and a Ph.D. in 1962 -- both from Stanford. He taught at Bowdoin College, Princeton University, University of California at Berkeley, Hull University (England), and Southern Methodist University. Macmillan published his volume, THE FORM OF POETRY, in 1966, and he received a Fulbright lectureship at University of Bucharest (Romania) in 1969-1970. Arp joined Laurence Perrine in preparing revised editions of SOUND AND SENSE, STORY AND STRUCTURE, and LITERATURE: STRUCTURE, SOUND, AND SENSE beginning in 1982. He became sole author of the books in 1997 and was joined by Greg Johnson in 2002. Dr. Arp passed away in 2015.

Greg Johnson received an M.A. in English from Southern Methodist University and a Ph.D. in English from Emory University. Dr. Johnson is the author of twelve books of fiction, poetry, criticism, and biography, including LAST ENCOUNTER WITH THE ENEMY (Johns Hopkins, 2004), WOMEN I'VE KNOWN: NEW AND SELECTED STORIES (Ontario Review, 2007), the novel STICKY KISSES (Alyson Books, 2001), and several books on Joyce Carol Oates, including INVISIBLE WRITER: A BIOGRAPHY OF JOYCE CAROL OATES (Dutton, 1998) and JOYCE CAROL OATES: CONVERSATIONS 1970-2006 (Ontario Review, 2006). He joined the author team of PERRINE'S LITERATURE in 2002 and has been the sole author since Thomas Arp's passing in 2015.

If you do not want to expend unnecessarily your money, just get the 10Th edition of Perrine's Literature absolutely no difference with the 11Th edition maybe the page numbers differ but that is it. Very happy with the quality of my purchase highly recommended.

I'm grateful for such a scholarly set of subjects in one book. I graduated in English many years ago and wasn't aware of this author. He is filling in many of the holes I left in those frustrating years as an undergraduate.

About the Author
Anthony Mancuso is a corporations and limited liability company expert. He graduated from Hastings College of Law in San Francisco, is a member of the California State Bar, writes books and software in the fields of corporate and LLC law, and studies advanced business taxation at Golden Gate University in San Francisco. He has also been a consultant for Silicon Valley EDA (Electronic Design Automation) companies, most recently working on a C++ open-source integrated circuit database project team. He is the author of several Nolo books on forming and operating corporations (both profit and nonprofit) and limited liability companies. His titles include Incorporate Your Business, How to Form a Nonprofit Corporation (national and California editions), Form Your Own Limited Liability Company, The Corporate Records Handbook, and LLC or Corporation?. He wrote and programmed Nolo's LLC Maker and Incorporator Pro software programs, which generate state-by-state articles and other forms for organizing corporations and LLCs. His books and software have shown over a quarter of a million businesses and organizations how to form a corporation or LLC. He also is a licensed helicopter pilot and has performed for years as a guitarist in many musical idioms.

Great coverage of exactly what it says it's going to cover.

Many other books on corporate forms try to cover everything (from selection of entity type to formation, filings, taxes, legalities, etc.) which means they usually just cover these topics in a shallow and frustrating way.

This book covers exactly what it says it covers (meetings, minutes and resolutions) and covers these topics very well, with lots of details, advice, examples and related useful tid-bits. It doesn't try to be an encyclopedia of everything related to corporations, which is GOOD, it has FOCUS. Also, it's from Nolo press, a generally better publisher of these types of books in my opinion, and Mancuso has written lots of good business/legal books.

The book is overkill for the typical LLC or small S-corp, but, on the other hand, these are the businesses that are at greater risk of having their corporate veils discarded in court. You can crank down the degree of formality to whatever level you feel comfortable, but at least you'll have a good idea of how the larger and more professionally-managed corporations document themselves.

If you're a sole proprietor upgrading to an LLC, or a two-person corp of any type, then this book probably won't be what you're looking for. If you're a newly-minted MBA or lawyer and now you're handling the affairs of a small- to mid-sized corp as an officer or advisor, then I'll bet you'll think the book is great (and maybe you'll secretly hide it in your desk to make everyone think you just know all this "corporate paperwork BS" off the top of your head). In general, the book is very good at clarifying the weirdness of corporate documentation.

A superb collection of forms for an established business

This book contains a great deal of ready to use forms for your corporate records on many aspects of business operations but be careful if you are looking for information on minutes of first meeting. The book says not to worry if you don't have organizational minutes; however, such important resolutions as corporate seal or principal office are missing.

Apparently these resolutions are covered by other NoLo books, which deal with formation of various corporation types. So just be aware, you may need to pick up one of those books in addition to this one.

While the text maybe cautious in its approach and lengthy in it's execution; it is the best means to help students achieve proficient college-level writing and textual analysis skills. A Very Useful Book

This book is very useful if you are put in tn the situation of becoming a guardian or needing to learn about the process. This book contains blank copies of all of the forms that would be required in the state of California and detailed instructions for how to complete them. If you are literate enough to read this review; you should be able to complete the guardianship process without hiring a lawyer. The book identifies situations where you will need to hire a lawyer; however, it should not be required if the guardianship is not contested or does not involve an estate.

If your possible guardianship involves the Childhood Protection Service (CPS). you do not actually need this book. The book may make the process more understandable; however, CPS will perform all of the necessary steps if they deem you a suitable guardian for a minor in their charge. You still may want to buy the book in case you need to move, travel or transfer the guardianship some day. Good luck. SDSerf.

Until I found this book I thought I would have to hire an attorney. It explains in an easy to understand way what I need to do and includes the forms I need. It has a list of resources to help and helpful recommendations.

Great information!

I have used this book in the past and it is a great resource. Recently I got guardianship of my grandson and did not want to go through the courts. This allowed me to do what I needed to do.
