About the Author

William A. Streshly is Emeritus Professor of Educational Leadership in the College of Education at San Diego State University (SDSU). Prior to coming to SDSU in 1990, he spent 25 years in public school administration, including five years as principal of a large suburban high school and 15 years as superintendent of several California school districts varying in size from 2,500 to 25,000 students.

In addition to his numerous publications in the professional journals, Dr. Streshly is author or co-author of five practical books for school leaders, The Top Ten Myths in Education, Avoiding Legal Hassles (two editions), Teacher Unions and Quality Education, Preventing and Managing Teacher Strikes, and From Good Schools to Great Schools: What Their Principals Do Well.

Currently, Professor Streshly is a Senior Lead Auditor for Curriculum Management Systems, Inc., an affiliate of Phi Delta Kappa International. He has audited the instructional operations of more than 40 school districts in 16 states. His intense interest in the role of effective school leadership stems from his own extensive experience as well as his in-depth observation of the work of hundreds of practicing school principals across the country.

Susan Penny Gray, PhD has been an educator for more than 40 years in Indiana and California, including 15 years as Director of Curriculum Services for the San Marcos Unified School District in San Marcos, California and 7 years as a member of the Educational Leadership faculty at San Diego State University. During her tenure as Director of Curriculum Services she was responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of exemplary programs recognized throughout California in Reading/Language Arts, Mathematics, History-Social Science, and Science for grades K through 12. She was also responsible for effective teacher and principal support strategies that during the years under her direction evolved into a powerful system of coaches and facilitators of staff development. Dr. Gray has “walked the talk” in helping principals become truly effective instructional leaders. Her insights give down to earth, practical meaning to the research discussed in this book.

Dr. Gray serves on the San Diego State University (SDSU) Educational Administration Preparation Programs Advisory Committee. In her capacity on this committee and as a current member of the faculty of the Educational Leadership Department in the School of Education at SDSU, she has assisted in implementing changes in that school’s administration preparation program. She has designed and currently teaches an administrative course on instructional improvement through evaluation and supervision. In this course students participate in a walk-through supervision practicum, formal evaluation exercises, and the design of teacher and administrator evaluation systems. In addition, Dr. Gray teaches and coordinates the advanced administrator credentialing program at SDSU and supervises the fieldwork for administrative credential candidates at all levels.

In addition to her involvement with the faculty of Educational Leadership at San Diego State University, Dr. Gray serves as an officer on the Board of Directors of California Curriculum Management Systems, Incorporated (CalCMSi). She is certified to train administrators and teachers in Conducting Walk-Throughs for Higher Student Achievement and has implemented this training in several states across the country. She has also served as an external evaluator of schools and is a certified School Assistance Intervention Team leader for the State of California. She received curriculum management audit training from the California Curriculum Management Audit Center in Burlingame, California, in 1998. Since then she has served on school district audits in California, Washington, Texas, Ohio, Arizona, Maryland, New York, and Pennsylvania. She has also served on academic achievement teams conducting comprehensive on-site assessments of the educational operations of school and community college districts in California.

Dr. Gray earned her undergraduate degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and her master’s degree from San Diego State University. In 2006, she received a doctoral degree in educational leadership through the Claremont Graduate University/San Diego State University Joint Doctoral Program.

Larry E. Frase was professor and department chair of educational leadership in the College of Education at San Diego State University. He was a former superintendent of schools of the Catalina Foothills District in Tucson, Arizona, and is the author, coauthor, or editor of 23 books and 80 professional journal articles. His books include Top Ten Myths in Education; School Management by Wandering Around; and Teacher Compensation and Motivation. He is also coauthor of Walk-Throughs and Reflective Feedback for Higher Student Achievement. He has presented papers at AERA and UCEA. He is a senior lead auditor, having led curriculum audits of 32 school systems, including Oakland, California, and Baltimore, Maryland. Frase earned his EdD at Arizona State University.

About the Author

Walt Kaweski is a student teacher supervisor at California State University, Sacramento. With thirty-four years of experience in public education, he has taught a wide variety of subjects and grade levels including high school English, intervention reading and math, history, and instrumental music. Kaweski was awarded the 2007 Teacher of the Year Award by his school district for his work developing a successful inclusion program for students with autism. In partnership with Sacramento State University, he trains teacher candidates pursuing the special education credential. He has presented at local, state and national conferences on topics concerning inclusion support and friendship development for students with autism.

Kaweski earned his Master of Arts in Special Education from Sacramento State University. He is a certified Moderate-Severe Special Education Specialist and Cross-cultural, Language and Academic Development Specialist.

Loaded with Ideas

This book is perfect reading for the beginning of the school year. There are practical ideas for any general or special education teachers who want to know more about autism and the methods necessary for these students to flourish in school. The author knows the subject matter well and presents in a format that allows the reader to glean information easily. Most teachers do not have time to read a book cover to cover but this book makes it easy to find the information you need, quickly.

Teaching Adolescents With Autism: Practical Strategies for the Inclusive Classroom by Walter Kaweski is a well written, easy to use, resource for anyone involved in the development of teens with autism. It is especially helpful for teachers, healthcare professionals, and administrators, that have adolescents with autism, and inclusion, as a part of their discipline. The difference in this text and others is one of accessibility: easy to obtain the information you need. A well-designed format that allows for quick access; the chapters are free-standing, and full of helpful information, even for those of us not in the special education field. Kaweski presents information in an easy to read style, with an obvious love of the subject matter. A must have for continued professional development!

Must have !!!

After I joined a TOEFL class in which the material used was not The complete Guide to the TOEFL Test, so I could not use it for self-study. Therefore I decided to purchase the answer key because I was not able to check my answers. It's a bit pricy but I have no choice needed it. The good thing it includes the speaking and listening scripts. which can help contribute to your reading as well.Good Luck on your TOEFL test!!!

About the Author
John Suttle has been practicing law for 18 years. His practice consists of estate and trust planning; probate administration; federal, state and local tax counseling for high net worth individuals and retirement planning under ERISA. Co-author of IRAs, 401(k)s & Other Retirement Plans, he has served as an expert witness in numerous cases and lives in Atherton, California.

Twila Slesnick is an Enrolled Agent who specializes in tax and investment planning for retirees and prospective retirees, and does pension plan consulting for individuals and small businesses. Falls Short - NOT a Guide on Retirment Taxation

I would agree with Sofia Hernandez that you could have thrown out the word "Retirement" and this book would have worked. It's really an easy-to-read guide on the basics of US taxation but deals very little with tax issues related to retirement. Or, should be titled "Retirement for the Affluent Who Don't Have to Consider Entitlement Benefits or Pension Distributions." Social Security benefits, for example, isn't even a chapter item and gets only eight pages listed on the index? It should have dealt more serously with this issue. In my case, I am interested in the impact of the Windfall Elimination Provision. I am 60, called a couple SSA offices on the impact of the WEP. One office told me that if I can send in figures and they can have it estimated by another office. I called another office and was told SSA cannot do estimates but will calculate it for me WHEN I am ready to apply for benefits. And how about Medicare benefits? Five pages noted in the index. And it could have dealt more seriously with the mechanics of pension withdrawls and calculations to determine taxable portions.

A good resources on taxes and retiring

Whether you're nearing retirement or simply want to know more about it, you can't go wrong with this NOLO publication. I'm decades from retiring, but it was interesting to learn about the implications that older folks may encounter when retiring. They explain a lot of the tax issues that might be encountered as well as the implications of selling property, renting property, selling investments, social security, what to do with your home, and preparing for major health concerns.

The explanations are well written and are presented simplistically without jargon. The book explains when you can and can't do certain things with your money and how it will/won't affect your taxes. There are too many examples to list here, but they are all laid out in the book.

Anyone looking to learn more about the complex and sometimes tedious rules regarding the American tax system will learn a lot from this book. It's definitely a resource that I will consult in the future and have already suggested this book to my parents.

The authors certainly have "done their homework" in presenting a lot of complicated, dry and uninteresting information in a cogent and approachable manner. Another great NOLO publication!

An Informative, Helpful Guide

We are in the situation that one of us is disabled and the other about three years away from retirement. While family, we are not in a traditional marriage, and so we've had a lot of questions about how to manage as we age. This book provided some much-needed information about our particular situation (i.e., me as a dependent) and also a wealth of information about working post-retirement (which I'm sure DH will want to do, if "only" to write).

I also found the information on claiming dependents especially helpful as we worry about our long-grown son having to move back in with us once he finishes college if the current job market continues to decline and we have to pool resources to survive.

We are like a lot of folks: Pretty much dead broke, with no investment income or retirement plans other than Social Security, and no home either because we sold it before the bottom fell out. (At least in a few years, we hope to be out of debt.) However, for those who do have a home, pension plans, and other investments, this book will help you make the wisest decisions about them. It also covers what happens should one of you die, which is something everyone of retirement age has to think about and plan for. The section on Your Health covers long-term care options and how to handle having to pay for someone else's medical expenses.

No need to buy Forms A, B, and C

I love this series -- it's straightforward and easy to teach in portions rather than having to go sequentially through the book as you do with other workbooks. However, I was ding-dong enough to buy all three forms -- A, B, and C. If you read the footnotes at the beginning of B and C, you'll note the instructions/content/topics are the same in all three Forms -- the only thing that changes are the exercises. For my purposes in a high school English classroom, only one Form would have been fine since I could have created my own additional exercises as needed.

The information covers basic parts of speech through essay writing and includes remedial through advanced types of exercises and topics. I particularly like the possessives and contractions as well as the doubling-before-suffix lessons. I can't say the information is rare, but it's nice to have it all in one handy reference that's genuinely full of practical instruction and lacks unnecessary narrative.

Good book, but you probably should format the fonts used in the forms

This book is good for creating a Living Will and Power of Attorney. People are feaful of thinking about themselves not being in control of their life, but it's actually worse if you haven't made a plan (except in cases where you clearly want a court to be in jurisdiction of your choices). After visiting a young friend of mine in her 20's who is in a coma and remains in a convalescent home months after her accident, I decided that would not be what I would want if I were in a similar situation. So I used the book's CD form, downloaded to my PC, typed in my entries, had it notarized, and sent to my primary care physician and the people in my life who have agreed to make decisions in my behalf. It really was simple. Not easy, as I had kind of a lump in my throat thinking about it all, but much better to get it done.

The form's font made my portion of the form difficult to read once I printed it out with my input typed in the necessary spots. I would recommend if you are using these forms, that you use fonts that allow easier reading than the default. Otherwise it was good, easy, done.

The Power of Attorney was also easy. Again, I used the form on the included CD, typed in my entries, took it to my notary, and again, done. The book gave good information, that this form, unlike the Living Will form, should not be distributed in case you need to take the power of attorney from your selected person, etc. It does need to be in a location for the selected person to find the power of attorney form when needed.

With both of these, you need agreement with the selected people in your life.

I've used Nolo for advice in the past and have always found them and their books to be easy to use and correct.

Excellent, Helpful Guide

This is a very good guide for anyone preparing an advanced health care directive and/or power of attorney for finances. It's geared towards California residents - the forms are based on statutory forms in the California Code. They can be modified according to your preferences, upon the advice in this book. The language is easy for us laypeople to follow, and I appreciate the general advice on planning for health care emergencies. I also found the discussion on incorporating both types of forms in your overall estate planning particularly useful. I'd recommend this book for anyone, whether you suffer from a serious illness or disability, or not.

About the Author
Kristin Johannsen held an MA in Applied English Linguistics from the University of Wisconsin - Madison. She had extensive experience teaching English in Japan, the United Arab Emirates, South Korea, France, and the United States. She has presented her ideas on global issues at multiple conferences around the world and was a published author. She spoke several languages including French, German, Spanish, Norwegian, and Korean.

Martin Milner holds a Masters of Education from the University of Wales, Cardiff. He has held teaching and advising posts in Mexico, Namibia, Zanzibar, and Scotland. His work for the British Council sent him to Hungary and Thailand to set up English programs as well as advise the teachers in the program. He currently lives in Mexico where he works as a writer and editor.

The author team (Hector Sanchez, Eric Tejeda, David Ramos, Isa Tirado, Norma Hernandez, and Arthur Frias) are the academic coordinators of the different programs offered by PROULEX, the University of Guadalajara Language Center. About the Author
Anthony Mancuso is a corporations and limited liability company expert. He graduated from Hastings College of Law in San Francisco, is a member of the California State Bar, writes books and software in the fields of corporate and LLC law, and studies advanced business taxation at Golden Gate University in San Francisco. He has also been a consultant for Silicon Valley EDA (Electronic Design Automation) companies, most recently working on a C++ open-source integrated circuit database project team. He is the author of several Nolo books on forming and operating corporations (both profit and nonprofit) and limited liability companies. His titles include Incorporate Your Business, How to Form a Nonprofit Corporation (national and California editions), Form Your Own Limited Liability Company, The Corporate Records Handbook, and LLC or Corporation?. He wrote and programmed Nolo's LLC Maker and Incorporator Pro software programs, which generate state-by-state articles and other forms for organizing corporations and LLCs. I've read several books on this topic, and I can't rank this one very high on the list. The first half of the book is pretty decent, not bad at all; however, the last half of the book, four whole chapters, is focused on converting one entity to another. This material should be in another book devoted to that topic, not here. That said, you are paying for fifty percent of a book that is very readable. It is not dense at all, and the "real-world" examples illustrating when one company entity is preferable over another entity are good, though few and far between. The inclusion of MANY more example scenarios would have made this an extremely informative book.

Facilitates the crucial decision of LLC versus corporation

I've been a Mancuso fan since the 90s, having purchased most of his books. This is in my view an almost ideal book for those contemplating the decision of whether to form an LLC or a corporation.

I've actually read this book cover to cover, and it truly deals with the main question addressed in its title. It is the only book I've seen that shows in such a user-friendly way how to convert from one type of entity to another, for all the entity types.

What I would have like to make this a more perfect book is expanded treatment on S corporations, although the basics are included here. I recommend this book.

You must read the entire book. After reading this book I had lined up for a paid consultation with a well known small business accountant. I made sure I had my few questions worked out. He was so impressed that he waived his fee. You'll know 95% of the in's and outs in no time.

This is not about taxes and what is a write off. This is about business formation and tax planning for that business and for transfers. Wouldn't be nice to know what would happen to an LLC that went to a C or S corp? Well it tells you mostly everything you might want to know.

About the Author
Nancy Herzfeld-Pipkin has been in the ESL field since 1976 and is the author of seven ESL texts. For her first 23 years in the field, she taught full time in large IEP programs. She started teaching in community colleges in 1984 and has been a full-time community college instructor since 1999. In addition to teaching and writing/developing curriculum, Ms. Herzfeld-Pipkin has been involved in teacher training and the administration of various ESL programs.

Seller has not been written any description. After receiving I realized that it was full with writings and old! But that's fine, cauze it was my own fault, I had to check with her before buying.
